Demographics of Lake County Undocumented

More than 265,000 undocumented non-citizens live in the Chicago area. They are not currently eligible for health insurance under the law. These charts help us understand who they are.

Young adults are the least likely to be insured. Seniors age 55-64 may no longer have job-based insurance, but are not yet eligible for Medicare.


The gender profile of the uninsured population may reflect employment and layoff patterns in the region.


All other categories exclude persons who are also Latino.


How well or whether the person speaks English.


Shows the highest level attained. "Some college" excludes graduates at any level.


Employment in the civilian labor force. Military employment, typically very small, is not included.


In past 12 months, how many worked full-time, year-round.


In a typical week, how many hours worked.


A person may have multiple sources of income. Individuals are includwed in the food stamp if they are in a household receiving food stamps.


Individuals with disabilities have disproportionat healthcare needs.


A person may have multiple types of disability. Hearing impairments were the most prevalent, followed by impaired ability to live independently.
